So close to Spain...

Spain is just one hour ride form Vallée du Louron. There you can enjoy a completely different landscape and weather.
The two closest destinations are Valle de Arán, to the east, by way of Luchon, and Valle del Sobrarbe, in Aragon, to the west, by way of Saint Lary and the tunnel of Aragnouet-Bielsa.

El Sobrarbe

le Sobrarbe en AragonThe valley of Sobrarbe stars from the tuneel of Aragnouet-Bielsa, Aragon’s old kingdom and origin. Its mountains higher than three-thousanders: Monte Perdido, Tres Sorores, Marboré, Posets, Soum de Ramond and the interior mountains. Over 2.000 m: Tendereña, Cotiella, Ordesa or Sierra Marqués remain a challenge to go northward, so hard that not even Romans dared to trace out a route in the area.

Alquezar Sierra de Guara

The National Park of Ordesa and Monte Perdido is situated in this region. Its central peak, Monte Perdido, is 3355 m high; which represents the highest summit and the exe of this preserved site consisting of the four valleys starting from its foot. Ordesa to the west, Añisdo and Escuain to the south and Pineta to the east. Many villages based in the surroundings of the park still preserve their traditional architecture, both in churches and in houses, agricultural buildings and farms.

Sierra de GuaraThe breathtaking nature of Park Ordesa and the south side of Sierra de Guara is deemed to be the “Mecca” for canyoning. Alquezar and Rodellar are just two examples of the magnificent restored villages in the area of Sierra de Guara.

Sobrarbe also includes the Roman village of Ainsa and its neighborhood built high on a rocky fortification that overlooks the valley of Cinca. The beauty of Plaza Mayor and the parish church of Santa María is remarkable, an understated Romanesque temple with a spectacular tower like any other in Sobrarbe. Finally, in the south of Sobrarbe we can see the village of Barbastro and the vineyards of Somontano, flowing into the plains of Ebro River.

Lac de Vadiello, Ouest de la Sierra de GuaraPeña Montañesa adds a particular tonality to the landscape of Sobrarbe. With its only 2,291 m high can be seen from every single little village.

The valley of Chistau is also located in the region of Sobrarbe close to Biados in the deep valley. It stands out because of its perfectly preserved traditional architecture. This wonderful landscape is surrounded by emblematic summits, especially Cotiella and Posets (3,375 m) , second highest summit in the Pyrenees.

Val d'Aran La Val d'Aran

Val d’Aran is located in the province of Lérida, the only Atlanti-style valley in Spain. The rivers of Garonne and Noguera Pallaresa have their source here over the plain of Beret.

This place full of valleys surrounded by three-thousanders hosts more than 200 lakes. Some of them, like Mar or Tort de Riu, are the largest among the Spanish Pyrenean lakes. Its huge forests are composed of fir trees, pines and ferns.

Val d'AranVal d’Aran preserves a rich artistic and cultural patrimony. It hosts several churches: Salardú, Arties, Vielha, Bossots, among others. Beautiful Romanesque sculptures and masterpieces dating back to the 12th and 13th centuries form a rare artistic patrimony.

In Val d’Aran there is an architectural coherence… stone, slate and wood were used to build both Romanesque and Gothic churches.

The language is a characteristic element of the region: Aranés. It is a live language used in spoken communication by the people of the region. It belongs to the linguistic branch of Occitan and it is a variety of the Gascony language, even though it preserves its own personality.

Baqueira Beret is also in Val d’Aran. This is the ski resort of the king of Spain and the favourite one of Spanish “jet-set”.
