Discovering the valley and its heritage

 

Get to know the valley through our wide range of paths. You’ll find a fold-out brochure at the Tourist Office containing information about the well-cared signposted itineraries. You can also download it from the “USEFUL INFORMATION” section. The number of some of the itineraries mentioned below refer to the brochure whose information must be complemented by the map IGN Top 25 1848 OT.

N°1 : Les Granges d’Ourcibats (The barns of Ourcibats)

Chapelle d'Artiguelongue Estimated duration: 2 hGradient: 150 m

 

Starting point: Loudenvielle. Follow the road D725 towards Pont de Prat. At the end of the town, take Chemin d’Artiguelongue on the right and follow the signposted itinerary No.1 that crosses the road twice (mind the traffic). After the last barn and the uphill, go down the road on the left for 300 m (Walk on the roadside). After a bridge (Pont de Chèvres), leave the road to follow a path on the right. Close the door and the fence after crossing them (cattle). After a descent, cross the road to rejoin the way you have come through when going out the village and follow it back to Loudenvielle.


Tour de Moulor N° 2 : La Tour de Moulor (The tower of Moulor)

Estimated duration: 1 h 45 minGradienct: 170 m

 

The church of Loudenvielle is the starting point; take the second street to the right after the post office (track of Cidelongue) and follow the signposted itinerary No. 2. After the Tour de Moulor, go down to the left to the lake of Génos-Loudenvielle. Cross the road (mind the traffic) and then the blue footbridge, go round the lakeside towards Loudenvielle. After the tennis court, take the footbridge over the river and get to the church of Loudenvielle on Cazalis St. and, finally, get to Gourgs Blancs St.


N° 3 : Le Chemin des Ardoisières (The path of the slate quarries)

Village de Génos Estimated duration: 2 h Gradient: 200 m

Starting from the town hall of Génos, go through the village following the signposted itinerary No. 3. After the church and the castle, go down to the lake and cross the blue bridge. Follow the road on the left for 300 m (walk on the left side behind the wooden fence) and take the track to the right that leads to Armenteule. Go throughout the village up to the church (mind the traffic) and keep on walking on the way to Adervielle. After leaving behind a bridge, stay on the left side and then take the right up to Adervielle. Reach the top of the village after going around the left side of the Town Hall. Follow the way on the left, cross a stream and go up to an intersection. Then follow the way leading to Génos on the left and come back to the Town Hall.


Eglise Saint Calixte N° 4 : L’Eglise Saint-Calixte (Church of Saint Callixtus)

Estimated duration: 2h Gradient: 200 m

 

Park the car at the entrance of the village of Mont and pass around the left side of the church to follow the signposted itinerary No. 4. Don’t take the way going downhill on the left that leads to the cheese factory and keep walking straight on. Once at Saint Calixte, pass around the left side of the church and go down to Cazaux-Fréchet. Go down the road for around 100 m (be careful) and follow the way on the left that leads again to Mont.

N° 5 : Le Chemin des Estives (The paths of the pastures)

Sentier des Estives, entre Mont et Saint Calixte Estimated duration: 3h 45min Gradient: 500 m

 

This physically-demanding itinerary is difficult to be completed when there is fog. “Estives” are summer pastures. Keep dogs on the lead and make sure you close every door and fence you cross (cattle). Park at the entrance of the village of Mont and pass around the left side of the church to follow the signposted itinerary No.4. Once at Saint Calixte, pass around the right side of the church to follow the signposted itinerary No.5 towards Cazaux-Dessus. Go down to the left again to cross the village and the chapel, a little further. Follow the path that leads straight on to the forest road of Balencous. Follow the road on the left side for 2 km and don’t take the two paths going down on the left side. When arriving to the ruins (walls) take the first path to the right leading to the high forest of fir trees (viewpoint). Then, go up to the left through a path that runs alongside to the forest. Once on the plain, go up through the steep pastures following the signs of the way up to a shelf (1,722 m altitude) and follow a pastoral path on the right going down the slope. Cross a fence and, further along the way, another one over a little pass (water trough) and go down a path. After some zigzags, keep going down to an oak grove. Afterwards, go down a longer path to Mont. Down a stone-paved street, turn left to the church and then the parking.


Sentier du Lapadé à Val Louron N° 9 : La Forêt de Lapadé (The forest of Lapadé)

Estimated duration: 1 h 45 min. Gradient: 180 m

 

Starting point: parking of Val Louron. Follow the signposted itinerary No.9 alongside to the buildings. After the restaurant “le Trounquet”, go to the forest and go down to the ski lift of Lapadé. Keep walking on the left side of the path surrounding the fenced park. Take special care of the children on the stretch parallel to the fence close to the reception (steep slope on the left). Next, the pathway leads up through the forest to a viewpoint (Belvédère de Lapadé). Keep away from the edge. Go up to a second viewpoint (Belvédère de la Forêt) and keep walking on the right side of the path to Val Louron. Once at the fenced park, go back to the ski resort through the same way you took at the beginning.

N° 10 : Le Rocher de Courtalets

Estimated duration: 1 h 45 min. Gradient: 180 m

 

Starting point: Val Louron. Follow the signposted itinerary No.9 up to its highest spot (viewpoint of la Forêt - 1,620 m altitude) Leave behind the way on the right going down to Val Louron (itinerary No.9) and follow the signposted itinerary No.10, which, after a few zigzags, leads up to the highest spot of the forest and to Rocher de Courtalets (viewpoint). Go down again through the same path up to the viewpoint of la Forêt and take the way to the left going down to Val Louron to complete the itinerary No.9.

Chemin de la Pale

Chemin de la Pale à Bordères Louron Estimated uphill duration: 1h 30min Gradient: 300 m Estimated downhill duration: 45min

 

This route can be completed only when surface is dry (slippery stone ground). No signposted way. Starting point: the church of Bordères-Louron. Go up the village through the street “Cami de la Caussade”, pass by the water trough of la Carreére and follow the street “Bié d’Aspe”. Take the right way at every bifurcation to go up to a stone-paved way. Later, take a path that leads up through a steel barrier that must be closed after crossing (cattle). After a zigzag and a climb, don’t take the forest road on the left side and follow a path to the right up to a shelf (Pla de Cross, picnic tables). Go down the same way to return to the starting point
