Territory and heritage

Classified as “Art and History country” since 2008 and as a “Major Occitanie Site” bearing the name "Pyrénées Aure-Louron'' since 2018, the Louron Valley really is a joy to behold.

The area is brought to life by the guide-lecturers of the Pays d'Art et d'Histoire, and there are programmed visits whereby you can discover the heritage of the Louron Valley. Ancient villages dotted with plaques, listed Romanesque churches with paintings over 500 years old - will no longer hold any secrets for you. Visits which always turn into beautiful encounters, whether they are during the day or night, fairy tales or themed talks….the Arixo museum space is an absolute must - a traditional residence where the ancestral know-how is combined with new technologies.  There is also the “Moulin de Saoussas” mill, a real milling museum whose millstones work using hydro power and the objects and tools on show date mostly from the 18th and 19th centuries. Outside, the sawmill is still in working order - as it was hundreds of years ago...

In the heart of the village of Loudenvielle, the ARIXO museum space with its own cinema and state of the art  equipment (4K digital cinema, 3D, etc.) is open all year round. The films are always recent releases and are quite varied, with a mixture of films for the general public and “auteur” or  (independant) films. There is something for everyone's taste. Films in their original version are subtitled. The films and their showing times vary according to the season.
